This is the chicken family that lives in my front yard (note the baby chicks, the mama hen,  and the rooster hidden in the bushes at the top right). No, I don’t live on a farm. I live in Key West! These birds freely roam the streets of Key West, especially in the Old Town section. They are descendants of cock fighters brought here from Cuba, and are therefore protected. You’ll find that, like the rest of us, the roosters are on island time, choosing to crow not at sunrise, but from mid-afternoon and during all hours of the night. Like so many other unusual things on this island, they are part of the Key West charm!
